Fall Must-Do Yard Maintenence

Fall “Must-do” Yard Maintenance

Fall is finally here, and these cooler days make working outdoors the perfect way to spend the day. Make sure you take advantage of the nice weather and get a jump start on some “must-do” yard maintenance. Come Winter and next Spring you’ll be happy that you did! Here’s a quick to do list that we help will keep you focused!

  1. Remove any dead branches from deciduous trees or completely remove those poor plants that succumbed to the heat and died over the summer and replant! Replanting in the Fall is one of the best times to do so!
  2. Aerate your lawn, doing so decreases soil compaction and really helps beautify your lawn in the seasons to come
  3. Fertilize your lawn! Make sure you use one specially formulated for fall grass feeding.
  4. Mulch! Mulching will really help keeps weeds down and also helps insulate tender plant roots from the winter cold
  5. Prune plants and trees- check with your local garden center to see which ones need fall pruning
  6. Protect plants that are sensitive to cold and bring in potted plants that can’t survive frost.

Fall yard maintenance is not only a good thing to do but it’s a good workout and is a great way to enjoy your beautiful, cooler fall days too! We often remind ourselves of this fact too! As many of you know, the Graham McCarthy Realty Team can often be found with “rake in hand!”
